SERVICES
Regular Tuning
Designed for pianos that have been tuned and maintained regularly. This service includes a full evaluation, precise fine tuning, and light cleaning. If the piano is more than slightly out of tune, I may recommend a pitch raise to reset string tension so the tuning will hold properly and remain stable.
If I discover your piano would benefit from additional mechanical service, I'll explain my recommendations before performing any additional work.

Deep Clean and Piano Care
Upright & Grand PianosA deep cleaning removes accumulated dust, debris, and buildup from the piano’s interior, including the action cavity, key bed, and soundboard areas. For upright pianos, this may involve removing the keys and action to allow proper access—especially in cases of heavy neglect. For grand pianos, specialized tools are used to clean beneath the strings and around the soundboard where dust commonly collects. Each service is finished with a careful wipe-down and light polish to refresh the piano’s appearance and maintain a healthy interior environment.

WHY AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TUNE MY PIANO?
Pianos naturally go out of tune over time, primarily due to changes in temperature and humidity. Here in the South, heat and moisture cause the wooden parts of the piano to expand and contract, which affects string tension and pitch stability.
For most homes, I recommend tuning every six months. Regular tuning prevents small pitch changes from accumulating, helps the piano hold tune more reliably, and keeps it sounding balanced and pleasant to play. Pianos that are played heavily—such as those in churches, studios, or performance spaces—may need more frequent tuning. Even if a piano isn’t played often, regular tuning helps maintain its overall health and longevity.
WHAT IS A PITCH RAISE AND WHY DO I NEED IT?
A pitch raise is a process used when a piano has gone significantly flat due to years without tuning. As string tension slowly drops over time, the entire structure of the piano relaxes along with it.
Bringing the piano back up to standard pitch (A440) all at once can cause the strings, soundboard, and frame to shift as they stretch, making it difficult for the piano to hold a fine tuning. To avoid this, I first raise the overall tension during the initial visit, then return a few weeks later for a fine tuning once the piano has had time to settle.
This two-step approach helps the piano stabilize and ensures it stays in tune longer.

Even when a piano is in tune, it may still feel uneven, sluggish, or inconsistent from key to key—especially if it hasn’t received mechanical service in many years.
In these cases, I may recommend optional services such as action calibration and lubrication to improve how the piano feels and responds. These address normal wear and friction that naturally develop over time. While not required for tuning, they can be helpful for clients who want to restore comfort and consistency across the keyboard

I provide piano tuning and service throughout Birmingham and surrounding areas, including Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Homewood, and nearby communities.Travel within about 25 miles of ZIP code 35242 is included in standard service. If you’re a little outside that range, I may add a small mileage fee, which is always discussed with you before booking.
